Ten Men Not Enough
Gorleston's hopes of the title were ended in Essex injury time.
The Greens needed a win to keep up the pressure at the top of the table.
Stewart Larter made two changes. Josh Armes returned to central defence with Ben Lewis dropping to the bench, and Keegan Middleton replaced the injured Bradley Hough.
The game got off to the worst possible start for Gorleston when they conceded a goal in the 7th minute with a header from a set piece.
The Greens had their first chance midway through the half with a Christy Finch shot on the turn but neither keeper had been unduly troubled to that point.
The half burst into life around the 35th minute.
Nathan Stone picked up a yellow card for dissent and failed to learn his lesson as within a minute picked up a second yellow for more dissent and was sent off.
In between the two cards, however, Gorleston equalised with a looping Finch header from a left wing cross.
The scrappy half ended all square. Gorleston had been better on the ball but wasteful in the oppositions third whilst Stanway had sporadic attacks without troubling Elliot Pride.
Not surprisingly against the ten men, Stanway carried more threat in the second half with an early shot saved by Pride and the follow up pushed wide.
The hosts had the ball in the Gorleston net after 62 minutes but it was ruled offside. Almost immediately Finch had one ruled out for offside at the other end.
With about seven minutes to go Gorleston took the lead when a long ball over the top found Chris Sandford and he lobbed the keeper to put the ball into the net.
But the ten men couldn’t hold on and with a couple of minutes remaining Stanway equalised with a turn and shot which went in off the far post.
Then, in injury time, came the sucker punch for Gorleston with Stanway going ahead. To add salt into the wounds there was time for a Stanway fourth, for a defeat which knocked Gorleston’s already slim chance of the title on the head.
